so quick compared to a quilt…
this one is a bit different. contrasting colour on each of the background stripes

you probably know this already but I LURVE buttons

easy peasy and fast :
cut a heart-shaped stencil the size you want
sit it on top of scrapbooking paper
fill in the heart with buttons (liberally coating your fingers as you go)

i’ve been taking photos, making new ads…this is one of my favourite parts of what i do.
and ‘making shop samples’ (that’s what i call it when i can’t keep my hands off the new stock and just have to make something with it!)…

and i’ve been thinking a LOT about twelve by twelve.
there was great excitement at Houston as nine twelves met and hosted our exhibition. sadly three of us couldn’t get there but we were there in the form of cardboard cutouts! apparently my cardboard face had a great time at dinner and even had a margarita (my first one ever)!
we have a new direction for 2012 and in keeping with that Gerrie has announced our first theme, “Metamorphosis”. my brain is whirring…and maybe evolving?

the never-ending quest

the Quest for the Perfect Handbag never ends for me.
one day i will find it – perfect in its lusciousness.
capacious but not immense, well-weighted on the shoulder, able to be chucked on the back seat of the car with no fear of breaking/scratching/scraping part of it.
and it won’t be like the 782521097365408702 bags that i rejected on Monday,
when i wasted six hours searching for It.
it won’t be black, brown, tan or *shudder* maroon.

in the meantime, i am salving my sorrow with this…

…i am making myself a new bag.

i have a real life. i also have the life that lives in my head that is (i imagine) what my life would be if i were left entirely to my own devices. i daydream about it quite often. when i’m tired, when i’m stressed. when i’m just plain sick of being _______ to other people and want to run away.

i’ll live in the country. and i won’t have a phone. i’ll chop firewood. i’ll eat lots of bean soup (and consequently will have very few visitors).

i’ll wear tulle (you, too?) – big ballgowns that drag in the mud when i feed the chickens. but i’ll wear them with cardigans that i knitted myself from my handspun wool. and red gumboots.

i’ll grow old and be happy and everyone will leave me alone because they’ll think i’m odd…

…actually, no. i would get lonely eventually. i’ll need a few friends who come by sometimes for cake. they will probably wear gumboots,too, and sparkly earrings.
i can think of a few of you who will fit right in.
